Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh, applied for a new extension: a .BD Top Level Domain with Bangla characters, which means written in the official country language.
The two main goals of this “project” are: first, making the communication easier between the 300 million Bangla-speaking Internet users by using their mother tongue. It is a fact, Bangla is not only spoken in Bangladesh but also in many parts of India. The second interest of this new extension is, of course, a greater expansion of their national language throughout the world.
The new Top Level Domain with Bangla characters should be launched by the end of year 2010, in about 6 to 9 months. Until then, it is still possible to register domain names under .COM.BD and .NET.BD.
