Set your Basic Mailbox to Apple Mail

Once your  Basic mailbox has been created,  go to Apple Mail to set up your mailbox.

Configure a Basic mailbox in Apple Mail

Automatic configuration

Follow these steps:

  1. Open Safari and enter the following line as url where you replace the last part with the e-mail address you created earlier.
    https://autodiscover-s.mailprotect.be/apple/ user@mail.address
  2. A file is generated. Open that file and enter the password of your mailbox.
  3. The mailbox is checked and installed on your computer

Manual configuration in Apple Mail

Follow these steps in Apple Mail:

  1. Via the navigation bar at the top you go to “Mail”> “Preferences”.
  2. Go to the “Account” tab and click on the plus sign at the bottom to add an account.
  3. Choose “Other Mail account” and continue.
  4. Enter your name, e-mail address and password and continue.
  5. Apple’s automatic check will fail, but that’s no problem (see image).
    Choose IMAP or POP (read our selection tool) in the drop-down menu and enter the missing information.

    Incoming e-mail server:
     imap.mailprotect.be - for IMAP (recommended)
    pop3.mailprotect.be - for POP3
    
    Outgoing e-mail server:
     smtp-auth.mailprotect.be
  6. Select the apps that you want to use with this e-mail account and complete the configuration.Account >> other mail account
Tip: Delete e-mails from the server if you chose a POP configuration

Make sure your online mailbox has not become full, by deleting deleted e-mails there too. Follow these extra steps for this. This is done automatically with an IMAP configuration. Delete e-mails from the server in Apple Mail (POP only)

Check if your mailbox is set up correctly in Apple Mail

Is your mailbox in Apple Mail strange? Does he still receive messages but can he no longer send them or vice versa? Then there is probably something wrong with the settings.

Follow these steps in Apple Mail to see if your mailbox is set up correctly:

  1. Via the navigation bar at the top you go to “Mail”> “Preferences”.
  2. Go to the “Account” tab and select the mailbox that you want to check.
  3. Go to the “Server Settings” tab.
  4. Check if the settings match the following:
    Username: Exactly the same as your e-mail address
     Server incoming e-mail: 
     imap.mailprotect.be - Port 993 - for IMAP
    pop3.mailprotect.be - Port 995 - for POP3
    
    Outgoing e-mail server:
     smtp-auth.mailprotect.be - Port 465
  5. Make sure the “Manage connection settings automatically” option is unchecked.
